No other product can be identified to Marilyn Monroe, as Chanel’s No5 perfume does and probably no other celebrity can be related to the world’s known perfume, as Marilyn does. So, after artists like Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and Audrey Tautou, Marilyn Monroe becomes the new face of the fragrance’s campaign.
The new campaign, consisted of both print and TV ads, will be launched later this year.
During a Life magazine interview in 1952, Marilyn first reveals that the iconic scent is the only thing she wears to bed. And, for this year’s holiday campaign, Chanel uncovers a recording of a 1960 Marie Claire interview to journalist Georges Belmont, where we can hear Marilyn saying: “You know, they ask you questions. Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pajama top? The bottoms of the pajamas? Or a nightgown? What kind of…?’ So I said, ‘Chanel No5!’, because it’s the truth. And yet, I don’t want to say ‘nude’. But it’s the truth!”.
You can hear that clip of the interview at around 1:41-2:09 in the video Chanel has created so as to celebrate Marilyn Monroe’s link to the brand’s perfume.
Random info: Chanel’s No5, which was first launched in 1921, is the world’s best-selling fragrance.
